August 2010 Newsletter In general, I have had the pleasure of working with many stop-loss carriers and reinsurers who truly care about the self-funded industry, and seek to keep self-funding alive through innovative techniques and cost saving mechanisms. Lately, however, my inbox has been exploding with TPA and benefit plan complaints regarding conflicts they are having with one stop-loss carrier in particular... July 2010 Newsletter The rules and regulations surrounding the new health insurance laws are getting more complicated each day. One of the priorities here at The Phia Group is to make sure that we stay on top of the daily changes. Our consulting team, led by Attorney Jennifer M. McCormick, is ready and able to assist, so please contact our office with any questions that you may have... The Phia Group Forum – Boston 2010 was a smashing success. Over 200 people from across the country came to our event and the response was amazing. I would like to extend my thanks to our generous sponsors, our impressive speakers, The Phia Group staff, and especially The Phia Group’s Bethany Hoffman for her hard work in planning the entire event... After spending much of the past 4 months on the road speaking at various conferences, one thing is clear - people are clearly worried about Health Care Reform. Not the fact that it is happening, but that so many issues are unresolved and that answers are either not forthcoming or unclear... Spring is in the air here in Boston and the excitement for The Phia Group Forum – Boston 2010 is heating up for the summer. The turn out has been overwhelming and the remaining spots are extremely limited, so please sign up before May 1st as registration will close at that time... On Thursday March 11th, Adam Russo and Ron E. Peck attended SIIA's legislative sessions in Washington D.C. There, Adam and Ron heard various members of Congress discuss the future of self-funded benefit plans and healthcare reform... I just got back from the HCAA conference in Las Vegas – they throw a great show by the way – and I couldn’t believe the positive feedback that the industry has about The Phia Group Forum in June. We expect a packed house so register early. It is an exciting time here at Phia not only for the conference but also the plan document services that we are coming out with... 2010 has begun and the year looks promising based on what we’ve see so far in D.C. Here at The Phia Group our service offerings are evolving to suit our clients’ ever changing needs. As we’ve worked on subrogation, reimbursement, and overpayment cases, we’ve dealt with many plan document issues, and based on our years of experience, we are now reviewing and revising plan document provisions and drafting templates... It’s always at this time of year that I reflect on the challenges overcome in the past and the excitement of the new adventures ahead. As The Phia Group enters our 10th year of existence, I think about the old days when Mike and I decided to go against any reasonable logic to instead leap forward with the idea of an innovative subrogation company. We had a whole $4000 and a 400 square foot office with used equipment to make it happen – why wouldn’t we make it?... I hope that all of you enjoyed our first Phia Newsletter last month. It is a very interesting and exciting time here at The Phia Group not only because of our webinars, newsletters, and upcoming Forum in June of 2010, but also due to the national health insurance debates and issues that we all hear about on a daily basis... Over the past few years we have sent emails regarding important industry events relating to subrogation, ERISA, and the healthcare industry as a whole. Beginning this month, we will be emailing a monthly newsletter focusing on many of the innovative practices here at The Phia Group as well as diverse industry issues you won’t find anywhere else...
